Ray Downey, Sr.

Ray Downey, Sr., age 76, of Sulfur, KY passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at New Castle Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born on July 29, 1946, in Eminence, KY, the son of Marvin D. and Ida Bell Maupins Downey. Ray was of Baptist faith, was self-employed as a heating and air conditioning contractor, and enjoyed working on cars, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by two sons; Ray Jr. (Shawna) Downey of Pleasureville, KY and Marvin Thomas (Karla) Downey of Midway, KY, one daughter; Tammie M. (Ricardo) Jimenez of Sulphur, KY, one sister; Myrtle Sallee of La Grange, KY, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife; Bonnie Gay Woods Downey (2019), five brothers; Jasper, Selbert, Ed, Marvin and Cecil, three sisters; Fronie, Maudie and Rachel; and one grandchild; Heather Williamson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 4, 2022, at Sholar-Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Woods officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Eminence Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Stanley, Ricardo Jimenez, Jr., Ray P. Jimenez, Miguel T. Jimenez, Pepe’ Jimenez and Guicho Jimenez. Honorary pallbearers will be Kourtney Downey, Kaitlin Downey and Ava Stanley.
