Martha Jean Banta Tipton, age 76 of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Defoe on December 5, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Hazel Rucker Banta. She had worked in the Department of Agriculture for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Shelbyville. She is survived by one son: Jeffrey Huston Tipton of Shelbyville; one daughter: Cindy Tipton Brown (Bryant) of Shelbville; and two grandchildren: Travis Beckley and Tyler Beckley, both of Shelbyville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tipton and a brother, Lanny Wilson Banta. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville. Rev. Chris Platt, pastor of Highland Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Defoe Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2015. Honorary pallbearers are LaVern Nethery, Donna Jo Cheak, Mary Louise Bradshaw, Violet Raisor, Charles Rucker, Frank Miller, Jerald Banta and Ricky Wood. Active pallbearers are Tyler Beckley, Travis Beckley, Shain Nutter, Brandan Nutter, Bobby Wood and Linden Adams.
