Margaret Ann Jennings Cook

Obituary written and submitted by the family:

Born on September 15, 1933, Margaret Ann Jennings Cook went to her heavenly home on March 29, 2025. Margaret was born in Shelby County to Carl and Blanche Jennings where she grew up on a farm in Clay Village with her younger brother, Billy Carl, and her sister, Vivian. She graduated valedictorian of the Waddy HS class of 1951. She married Junior and they started a family on their farm on Terrapin Walk. She was a proud homemaker taking care of her growing family.

In 1965 the family moved to Pleasureville where Junior opened Cook’s Garage. While in Pleasureville she would have her sixth child. Margaret joined Pleasureville Baptist Church where she continued to be a member until her death. She was involved in WMU and taught preschool Sunday School for about 30 years.

When the youngest started school, Margaret went to work for the Pleasureville Fabric Shop. She later became the cafeteria manager for New Castle Elementary School where she made sure children had enough food even if she paid for it herself. She loved children and never wanted to see them hungry. She then went to work at Cedarmore Baptist Camp as manager of food service. She would always comment about the AA groups that came to Cedarmore. She would say they were so kind and appreciative and that they were a “huggy” bunch.

Once she retired, she loved to travel and visited many states. She felt blessed to have the opportunity to see so many interesting places. She continued to sew and crochet making clothes and blankets for preemies, baby afghans, and walker bags and lap robes for nursing home residents.

As a mother, she taught her older daughters how to cook, sew and raise a garden. She put a strong emphasis on learning, education, and most important of all, God and Christian values. She taught her kids to work hard, give to others and have compassion.

Margaret saw a lot of changes in her 91 years. She can be credited for making an impact on many lives, some she never met. She never had a cross word to say about someone and was always willing to help out anyone in need. She wanted to remain anonymous in her giving and never bragged about her good deeds.

Margaret is survived by daughters Deborah Herd of Pleasureville, Diane “Pat” Bullock of Salvisa, Bonnie (Kenny) Gibbs of Bagdad and Cindy Cook of Pleasureville and one son Scott (Debbie) Cook of Frankfort. She is also survived by a sister, Vivian Landers of Waddy, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Ralph Cook, Jr, a son Doug Cook, a grandson Douglas Cook and her brother Bill Jennings.

The family would like to thank the amazing caregivers that were so dedicated to Margaret’s care: Marion Evans, Heidi Crumbaugh, Brianna Armour and Kim Lyons.
