Laverne Holmes New

Laverne Holmes New, age 89 of Eminence died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at U of L Hospital Shelbyville. She was born on September 14, 1932 to the late David Samuel Holmes and Edna Jane Tindle Holmes. After years of raising her family, she worked at Norm’s and Shoppers Mart, in Eminence. She was a member of Christiansburg Baptist Church.

Laverne is survived by her husband: Robert “Boogie” New; two sons: Bradley New (Elisa) of Pleasureville and Brent New (DeeDee) of Franklinton; one daughter: Ruth Ann Fitzgerald (Butch) of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren: Michelle Fitzgerald Mbaye, Troy Fitzgerald, Matt Fitzgerald, Samantha Pierce, Macie New, Landon New and Chaney New; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and eight sisters.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville. Pastor Harry Hebert will officiate. A private burial will be in Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 11 a.m. until time of the service. The family request mask to be worn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Rassman, Wayne Rassman, Leland Erwin, Larry Roberts, Steve Holmes and Randy Easton. Active pallbearers will be Troy Fitzgerald, Matt Fitzgerald, Matthew Fitzgerald, Landon New, Keegan Morris and Stuart Boyd.
