James Forest Dowden, age 86, of Middletown, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville. He was born June 11, 1931, in Bethlehem and was the son of the late Arkley and Hallie Dunavan Dowden. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and worked for General Electric in Louisville for thirty-five years. He was a member of Middletown Christian Church, Middletown VFW Post #1170, St. Matthews American Legion, Buechel Moose Club, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Jean Dowden of Bardstown; and one nephew: Mark Anthony Dowden (Tammy) of Valley Station. He is preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Porter Dowden.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Rev. Carl L. Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2017 and from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Tuesday.
