Harry E. Howell, age 94, of Louisville, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Louisville East Post Acute in Louisville. He was born in Salem Township, Indiana on April 23, 1925 to Roscoe Lorenzo Howell and Rosa Rebecca Thorpe Howell. He was a retired United States Navy Veteran having served in the Korean War and World War II. He was a lifetime member and past State Commander of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars. After retirement from the United States Navy, he worked at Naval Ordinance in Louisville.
He is survived by two sons: Craig. C. Howell of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Brian Howell (Karen) of Elk Creek; three daughters: Karen Chandler (Neil) of Surrey, Maine, Rebecca Stratman (Daniel) of Sacramento, California, and Deidre VanBogaert (Steve) of Jeffersontown; two step-daughters: Anita Williams (Marvin) of Brandenburg and Teresa Conway of Bethlehem; one sister: Eva Pittman of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wives: Marguerite Adams Howell and Rae Frances McCormick Howell; and a brother: Marion Eugene Howell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019 at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville with Becky Stratman and Karen Chandler speaking. Burial with military honors will be in Pleasureville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 prior to the funeral services.
