Bettie Russell Tipton

Bettie Russell Tipton, age 82, of Shelbyville, KY passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Signature Healthcare of Spencer County. She was born on October 31, 1940, in Cropper, KY, the daughter of Russell and Cora Mae Kesler Tipton.

Bettie graduated from Bagdad High School in 1958 and obtained her BA and Master’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She taught business courses for 2 years at Shelby Co High School and served as cheerleader sponsor. She taught 1 year at Shelby Co Vocational School, was a leader in FBLA and judged annual contests for most of her life. Bettie then moved to the Department of Education in Frankfort and worked for state government until her retirement in 2010.

Bettie was active in the Kentucky and Shelby County Retired Teachers Associations and held various leadership roles.

Bettie was a humble and faithful servant at Cropper Baptist Church and was very active in all areas of ministry, including teaching adult Sunday School, worship song leader, choir member and soloist, and most recently serving as Treasurer. She brought joy to many faces at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville sharing her beautiful voice.

Bettie enjoyed time with her family and friends, working crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, and studying God’s Word. She ate lunch every Friday at Cracker Barrel with her special friends.

She is survived by one brother; Russell “Rusty” Tipton (Peggy Jo) of Shelbyville, KY, one niece; Stephanie Lee Tipton, one nephew; Jamie Scott Tipton and five great nieces and nephews; Madeline Perry, BrayLynn Wills, Russell Thomas Tipton, Stella Mae Tipton and Chloe Faye Lutes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 12, 2022, at Sholar-Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Huggins officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cropper Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie Tipton, Joetta Armstrong, Shirley Servi, Frances Nethery, Nancy Wiseman and Carolyn Chesher. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Tipton, Paul Case, David Case, Tim Bohannon, Jeff McGaughey and David Pollard.
